Hello, Hockey Fans! I'm Steve and I’m from the Roxborough neighborhood of Northwest, Philadelphia, PA and was 12 years and 26 days old on May 19th, 1974. The day the Philadelphia Flyers won the first of their two consecutive, Stanley Cup Championships. And that was it. I was hooked.
The day the Flyers won The Cup, I lived in Wissahickon in my Mom's house on Sumac Street and used to buy packs of cards from Ted's Corner Market on the corner of Manayunk Avenue and Sumac Street. The names in those packs were sometimes Orr, Esposito, Lafleur, Dryden and Parent.
Of all the hobbies I've had, collecting hockey cards is the one thing I have always, truly loved. I've amassed and sold collections and used the money towards a down payment on my first family house, have put down the hobby and picked it back up over the course of the last 50 years and when I did, each time, there was a nice collection awaiting to be reawakened and with some nice cards immediately re-sparking my interest, the love returned, instantly.
Today’s technologies make it so amazingly easy to keep abreast of what’s hot and current in the NHL and how the hobby reacts like a “stock exchange” to the current trends with price changes in certain cards in real time. Like Jesper Bratt’s 2017-18 Upper Deck Young Guns Rookie Card. An $8 slab (through his first 4 seasons averaging 11 goa
An $8 slab (through his first 4 seasons averaging 11 goals, puts up 26 in '22 and 32 in '23) increased to $40 with his recent goal production. I use the ESPN app and watch most games, each night to see the action firsthand, the NHL app to track player progress, the Beckett card app for current values and a couple of podcasts such as The Puck Podcast (my 1st) with Doug Stolhand and Eddie Garcia, and most recently, Spittin' Chicklets with Paul Bissonnette, Ryan Whitney and “R. A.”.
With technology keeping me abreast of everything going on in the National Hockey League, it's no surprise that I easily got back into collecting cards. With thousands to start with, I continue to be actively engaged in collecting, buying, grading, selling and trading NHL Trading Cards and Memorabilia.
